Tempeh Bolognese Pasta Sauce

Few things are more comforting than a bowl of warming, filling pasta. This gluten-free, vegan Tempeh Bolognese sauce features whole veggies and our protein-rich Aloha Tempeh for a fully delicious meal.

Tempeh Bolognese Pasta Sauce
Few things are more comforting than a bowl of warming, filling pasta. This gluten-free version features whole veggies and our protein-rich Aloha Tempeh for a fully delicious meal.

Ingredients
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1 cup diced onion
  • 1 cup diced bell pepper
  • 1 cup diced carrot
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 2-4 cloves garlic smashed
  • 1 each Life Foods Aloha Tempeh thawed and crumbled
  • 1 each (24-25oz) Jar prepared Marinara Sauce
  • 1 Tbsp Italian herb mixture
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 pound brown rice pasta any style

  • 1 Tbsp Italian herb mixture
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 pound brown rice pasta any style
Instructions
  1. In a large skillet heat 2 Tablespoons olive oil over medium heat. Add onions and cook until just browned, about 5-8 minutes.
  2. Add remaining olive oil and green pepper, carrot, garlic, and tempeh. Cook for 10-15 minutes, stirring constantly, until vegetables are soft and tempeh is browned.
  3. Lower heat and add marinara sauce and herbs. Stir to combine, adding water to thin slightly. Taste sauce, and season with salt and pepper if needed. Simmer sauce for 10 minutes on low heat, stirring often.
  4. Meanwhile, cook pasta according to package directions. Drain and rinse with cool water.
  5. Divide pasta between four bowls, and smother with sauce. Enjoy!
Recipe Notes

This recipe can also be made with our flavorful Original Superfood Burger or our Superfoods Sausages. Bake the frozen burgers or sausages in a 400ยบ oven for 10-15 minutes, until mostly cooked. Crumble and then add to veggies in place of the tempeh. Delicious and gluten-free either way!
