Description

Fennel is a hardy perennial herb, with yellow flowers and feathery leaves. Indigenous to the Mediterranean, it has become widely naturalized to many parts of the world.  The flavor of fennel is similar to that of anise because both contain the aromatic compound, anethole.  The whole plant is used for culinary purposes, including its bulb, stalks, leaves and seeds.
