This brilliant purple berry is native to Chile and Southern Argentina. The taste is similar to that of blackberries and they are also referred to as "Chilean Wineberries." According to myths, maqui berry was eaten by the Mapuche Indians and was reported to give unusual strength and stamina for warriors.
